Alison Balsom

alisonbalsom2.jpgTrumpeter Alison Balsom is a rare female soloist in the largely male world of trumpet playing. A highly acclaimed artist, she was named Best Young British Performer at the 2006 Classical Brit Awards and was honored with the Classic FM Listener’s Award at the September 2006 Gramophone Awards. The Echo Klassic Awards hailed Balsom, “Rising Artist of the Year 2007.”

Balsom was just seven when she caught the ‘trumpet bug’ in elementary school. She remembers the music department at Tannery Croft School in the U.K and says, “It was such a fantastic department. Of those who started playing there, around the age of eight, four of us have become professional musicians; it’s a brilliant example of good teaching when you’re young.”

Balsom continued her trumpet studies at the Guildhall School of Music and the Paris Conservatory. She was recently appointed Visiting Professor of Trumpet at the Guildhall School. Balsom performs a wide range of recital and concerto repertoire, and on both modern and baroque trumpets. Learn more about her at www.alisonbalsom.com.
