Pianist Ingrid Fliter has been praised for her musicality, intelligence and elegance in performances throughout the world. Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Fliter moved to Europe in the early 1990s.
In 2006, her global career opened when she won the Gilmore Artist Award. One of today’s most significant honors for pianists, the Gilmore Award is given once every four years to a pianist of exceptional quality, regardless of age or nationality, who can sustain a career as a major international artist. Fliter was among about 450 pianists nominated. The decision process is carried out anonymously as the panel of judges observes the candidates in performance. Because the process is kept so quiet, the first Fliter knew she was being considered for the $300,000 award was when she was told that she’d won.
Fliter is praised equally for her mastery of technique and artistic expression. She chalks this up to the way she prepares, as she said in an interview with Gramophone UK, “My method is to build a base, a very secure base from which I can fly; intensive practicing gives me this freedom.” To learn more about Ingrid Fliter, visit her web site at www.ingridfliter.com.
