In his long and distinguished career, Jaime Laredo has enraptured millions with passionate and polished performances of rare style andelegance. As a soloist, he has performed with more than 100international orchestras.
Laredo's conducting career has included a 20-year relationship withthe Scottish Chamber Orchestra with several tours, including sold-out Carnegie Hall appearances. A former "Distinguished Artist" by the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Laredo also conducted the orchestra on tour, and advised the chamber music series.
Born in Cochabamba, Bolivia, Laredo began playing violin at age five. Three years later he made his orchestral debut with the San FranciscoSymphony, prompting the San Francisco Examiner to proclaim, "In the 1920s it was Yehudi Menuhin; in the '30s it was Isaac Stern; and last night it was Jaime Laredo." In his native Bolivia, he holds the status of national hero.
He is also a member of the acclaimed Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio, which he formed in 1976 with his wife, cellist Sharon Robinson, and pianist Joseph Kalichstein. In 2006, Robinson and Laredo celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary, along with the 30th anniversary of the trio.
Laredo and Robinson will perform Rózsa's Sinfonia Concertante with the Britt Orchestra on Saturday, August 9.
