Janet Sung

Violinist Janet Sung enjoys an acclaimed international career as a virtuoso soloist. Her performances have been frequently aired on radio and television, including multiple broadcasts of her performance of Korngold’s Violin Concerto on NPR’s Performance Today. In her live performances of the Korngold, which she performs at Britt, she has been praised for her expressive, lush tone, and her complete command of the romantic concerto.

Sung began her studies at age seven, and when she was 10, she began a decade of studies with the renowned violin teacher Josef Gingold. This time in her life overlapped with her attendance at Harvard University, from which she graduated with honors with a double degree in anthropology and music. She also studied with Dorothy DeLay at the Juilliard School, and has received several top prizes and grants.

In addition to her compelling performances of traditional works, she also reveals her repertoire’s diversity by presenting the works of modern composers and regularly touring with fiddler Mark O’Connor’s American String Celebration.

Sung performs Korngold's Violin Concerto with the Britt Orchestra on Friday, Aug. 8, 2008 at 8 p.m.
