Sara Davis Buechner established her early career by winning the Gold Medal at the 1984 Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition, and as the Bronze Medalist of the 1986 Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition. The New York Times describes her by saying, "Buechner has it all…intelligence, integrity and all-encompassing technical prowess."
Buechner's wide-ranging interests include film music. She appears regularly with the Film Society of Lincoln Center, as one of a few pianists to actively perform piano scores to silent movies, notably the 150-minute long restored version of Ben Hur. In informal concert settings, she has been known to speak of everything from cartoons to baseball to Japanese kabuki to connect with her audience on a personal level, making her performance a memorable experience.
The Toronto Star raved, "In the concert hall, there are still too few Sara Buechners… What differentiates her from so many of her colleagues is the curiosity to explore and share with her listeners so much of the non-standard repertoire." Britt audiences will hear Buechner perform Herrmann's Concerto Macabre from the film Hangover Square on Saturday, August 9 at 8 p.m.
