The 2008 Britt Classical Festival is full of captivating guest artists, including returning favorites and exciting new stars.

On opening night, Friday, Aug. 1, Argentinean pianist Ingrid Fliter performs a Chopin Piano Concerto. The concert that night also includes Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet.

On Saturday, Aug. 2, Alison Balsom joins the orchestra to perform Haydn's Trumpet Concerto and Piazzolla's Libertango. The concert will also include works to highlight each section of the orchestra, including Schumann's Concertstück for Four Horns and Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings.

On Sunday, Aug. 3, the Arianna String Quartet will be joined by pianist Anton Nel for an afternoon recital with music by Mozart, Dvorak and Janacek.

During the middle weekend of the Classical Festival, the orchestra will perform two concerts that pay tribute to the Golden Age of movie music. Violinist Janet Sung will join the orchestra for Korngold's Violin Concerto on Friday, Aug. 8. That program will also include several works by Bernard Herrmann, who scored many of Hitchcock's greatest movies.

On Saturday, Aug. 9, the weekend of fine film music continues when violinist Jaime Laredo and Sharon Robinson join the orchestra for a Sinfonia Concertante by Rózsa, who wrote music for more than 100 films, including Ben Hur, El Cid and Ivanhoe. Also on Aug. 9, pianist Sara Davis Buechner will perform Herrmann's Concerto Macabre.

On Friday, Aug. 15, violinist Midori joins the orchestra for what's sure to be a stunning performance of Shostakovich's Violin Concerto No. 1. The orchestra will also perform Mozart's "Jupiter" Symphony.

Bring the whole family to Britt on Saturday, Aug. 16, when the Magic Circle Mime returns to Britt for a sci-fi thriller called "The Orchestra from Planet X." Children are encouraged to come dressed in alien costumes, and to arrive at 5:45 for fun pre-concert activities.

Closing the season is a "Star-Spangled Evening" on Sunday, Aug. 17, an evening of American music. Pianist Jon Kimura "Jackie" Parker returns to Britt to perform Gershwin's Concerto in F. The concert will conclude with Copland's Symphony No. 3.
