In 2008, Peter Bay celebrates his 16th season as Music Director and Conductor of the Britt Festival Orchestra. He has been Music Director of the Austin Symphony Orchestra since 1997.
Bay's guest appearances have included the National, St. Louis, Houston, Dallas, Baltimore, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Syracuse, Virginia, West Virginia, Colorado, Honolulu, Jacksonville, Alabama, Canton and Eugene symphonies; the Minnesota Orchestra, the Buffalo, Rhode Island, Louisiana, Tulsa, Boulder and Fort Wayne philharmonics; the Austin Lyric (A Streetcar Named Desire, La Traviata, Turandot, The Marriage of Figaro), Aspen (The Ballad of Baby Doe) and Eastman (Postcard From Morocco) opera companies. Summer music festival appearances have included Aspen (CO), Grant Park and Ravinia (IL), Round Top (TX), OK Mozart (OK), Skaneateles (NY) and Sewanee (TN). European engagements have been with the Carinthian Symphony in Austria, the Algarve Orchestra in Portugal and the Bochum Symphony in Germany.

Other positions held by Mr. Bay have included Music Director of the Erie Philharmonic, Annapolis Symphony Orchestra and Breckenridge Music Festival, and posts with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, the Richmond Symphony and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra. A native of Washington, D.C., Bay is a graduate of the University of Maryland and the Peabody Institute. In 1994, he was one of two conductors selected to participate in the Leonard Bernstein American Conductors Program.
