Britt adds opening acts to summer lineup (6-23-08)
JACKSONVILLE, OR — Britt Festivals has added several opening acts for 2008 concerts, including artists with rising national reputations, and one Britt Institute camp alumnus.
On The One, a jazz/funk/soul ensemble co-founded by former area resident Jesse Molloy, opens for Earth, Wind & Fire this Thursday, June 26. The band won a San Diego Music Award for Best Jazz Album in 2007. Saxophonist Molloy graduated from Southern Oregon University in 2001, and attended Britt Institute's Instrumental Jazz Camp while at Ashland High School. Molloy is currently appearing in commercials for Southern Oregon University.
Singer-songwriter Jesca Hoop, a native of Northern California, opens for Mark Knopfler at his sold-out Britt performance on Sunday, June 29.
Acoustic soul act LeRoy Bell and His Only Friends opens for bluesman B.B. King on Tuesday, July 1. The Seattle Post-Intelligence gave Bell's first full-length CD Two Sides to Every Story a "Grade A."
Rogue Valley-based guitar rock band AnnieMac opens for Three Dog Night on Thursday, July 10. First formed in the San Francisco Bay Area, the band has been building a following since reforming in southern Oregon in 2006.
Acoustic singer-songwriter Tristan Prettyman opens the concert for John Butler Trio and G. Love and Special Sauce on Friday, September 5. Prettyman appeared on the song "Beautiful" on G. Love's album Lemonade.
Opening for The Black Crowes on Sunday, September 7, the last concert of the season at the Britt Pavilion in Jacksonville, is rock band Grace Potter and the Nocturnals. The Vermont-based band is heavily influenced by The Rolling Stones, The Band and Little Feat, and have also received a following from the jam-band community.

Now in its 46th year, Britt Festivals is a non-profit organization that presents and sponsors performing arts and supports those activities through on-going education and audience development programs, and through cooperation with educational, civic, cultural and governmental organizations in southern Oregon. In addition to presenting concerts, Britt Festivals maintains a formal education program through the Britt Institute. Established in 1985, the Britt Institute hosts a wide variety of learning opportunities through a multi-faceted approach of summer camps, workshops, artist residencies, grade school programs, lectures and adult learning opportunities. ###
