Globe Saxophone Quartet, Faculty Quartet in Residence
Camp Description:
Now in its ninth year, the Britt Saxophone Workshop is one of the world’s longest continuously-running summer camps exclusively for saxophones. The workshop offers a “music school” experience, with classes in theory, history and unique master classes such as yoga for musicians, classical saxophone performance and jazz improvisation. Performance opportunities include chamber music in a saxophone quartet, a saxophone orchestra featuring bass through sopranino saxophones, solo master classes and an opportunity for a private lesson. The camp will take place on the campus of Southern Oregon University. It features faculty performances, master classes in classical and jazz methods, a participant quartet recital and performing as guests with the Ashland City Band in beautiful Lithia Park. Recreational activities include a river rafting trip. The faculty are four of America's best saxophone teachers who bring to their teaching a wealth of experience on the world's classical stages. Download a sample schedule(pdf) to see how the week is organized or take a look at Dr. Bender's site for photos, videos and more from last year's workshop.
Appropriate ages and skill level: The Saxophone Workshop is designed for intermediate to advanced saxophonists who study privately. Middle school, high school, college and young adults are encouraged to apply. All saxophone voices (soprano, alto, tenor and baritone) are welcome. Lodging in the SOU dorms is available. All students under 18 are supervised at all times.
